-From a poet for the Ann Arbor

"I am somewhat recovered from the Ann Arbor Broken Circles Hunger Project to benefit Food Gatherers.  The Kerry Town Concert House seats 120 people.  We had standing room only for (my estimate) 140 at least.

We only received 122 pounds of food, but we did have $3125 in donations.  Today when I delivered the checks and cash to Food Gatherers I was told that although they appreciate food items, the power of the Food Gatherers dollar is so strong that with the money we raised, they will be able to provide 10,000 meals.  Yes.  Ten thousand meals.  I have to tell you I am tearing up just writing this.  There were times I really didn't want to do the fundraiser it was so much exhausting work.

The entire framework for the fundraiser was Broken Circles, and I thank you for all your support." -  Thanks to Carla Lange of Local Gorilla Marketing!

Local poets use their book for local hunger.  Oklahoma benefits Oklahoma.  New York benefits New York.  You get the idea....

Praise for Buckskin Larch and Bedrock

Buckskin Larch and Bedrock.  Mike Hiler's years as a fire lookout in the Cascade Mountain range give us the spirit of mountains in his capturing of older voices who blazed the trails over the different peaks,  Check it out today at Inklings or Amazon!

Also, there is a companion CD of photos taken by Jo Miles.  Check it out at the Yakima Valley Museum.  They benefit from proceeds of this work

Amazon reviews

"Perhaps comparisons are inevitable as Hiler joins other literary fire lookouts (Jack Kerouac, Gary Snyder, Edward Abbey, and Richard Winders) in delighting us with his insights. The historical narrative in his poetry sets his work apart and draws me, as a reader and hiker, to visit the mountains he writes about with "Buckskin Larch" in hand not as a guidebook but as a contextual reference."

"...I finished today with the last poem, "Afterword". What a wonderful poem to conclude with! "Afterword" brought a tear. I am sure it struck me with such a strong impact because I am older now and it helped me to appreciate my own changes in perspective as life goes on. The poet reminded me that the life spiral continues. He illustrates how our memories take us back and then give us the ability to move on. Mike Hiler said it very well, "stones[the memories]in my mind...I had them on their way through".
